Top 5 in New York City

I just got back from vacation in New York City, and had such a fun time.  My first time to visit the city was in February 2013, and my first thoughts were, “It’s exactly how it looks in the movies!”  Growing up in the South, the idea of ever having a White Christmas was so fantastic, and I so looked forward to the day when I’d get to actually visit NYC.  Winter in the city is so beautiful with the cold and snow and all the bright lights, but Summer is great too.  Here are my top 5 favorites from my recent trip!

1.  EAT- Mozzarella & Vino

Mozzarella is a fabulous Italian restaurant in Midtown East.   The restaurant is quiet and romantic, absolutely perfect for a date night. For an app, I ordered the affettati & formagi plate- absolutely delicious.  I chose Speck & Buffalo Ricotta with Chestut Honey.  For entrees, we both ordered the Ravioli di Giorno.  Pasta was excellent, definitely made in house.  This year was our first time dining there, and we can’t wait to go back again.

2.  EAT- Dos Caminos

I had Dos Caminos the last time I was in NYC, and loved it!  I knew I’d def be returning for this trip.  Last year, we ate at the Midtown East location, and this time we ate at SoHo. I remember last year at Midtown, they had the most amazing early 2000’s rap playlist.  Growing up in southern Texas, I am extremely picky about Mexican food.  In San Antonio particularly, we have amazing restaurants ranging from Tex-Mex to Mexican street food.  On island there are some places that are referred to as ‘Tex-Mex’ and I’m like uhh, a packaged chips & canned salsa for Tex-Mex does not make!  At first, I was a little skeptical about Mexican food in New York, but I was wrong.  Dos Caminos has great margs, chips & salsa/guac, and entrees.

3.  SHOP- Pink Olive

I discovered this beautiful boutique last summer, and since then, it’s been one of my favorite stores ever.  Pink Olive is located in East Village, and is a boutique gift store.  (They have two other locations in Brooklyn, that I haven’t made it to yet, but can’t wait to!)  They have beautiful cards, books, stationary, notepads, calendars, art prints, and desk goodies.  Everything is set up and organized so well, so easy/fun to find just what you’re looking for.  I picked out a paper flower book I’ve been eyeing for a while and some super-cute matches for my desk.

4.  SHOP- Cloak & Dagger

Cloak & Dagger is a great vintage boutique located in East Village.  The shop is decorated so cute, I love their sassy neon sign- cuteshit.  Very mod/Wes Anderson vibes. Super fun 60’s dresses, and pretty accessories/desk decor.  I picked out a beautiful travel journal (perfect, right!?) from one of my favorite brands- Rifle Paper Company.

5.  SHOP- Birchbox SoHo

When Birchbox first came out a few years ago, I was beyond jealous that they didn’t offer deliveries to TCI.  (However, even if they did, shipping/duty would be way over the actual price of the box.)  I could only get my fix  through browsing #birchboxbrag on instagram.  When I heard of their flagship store in SoHo, I knew I HAD to go the next time I was in NYC.  It did NOT disappoint.  SUCH a cute place.  2 stories worth of skincare, bath products, nail products, makeup, build your own box station, hair products, hair styling, and even a men’s section!  They have some of my favorite beauty brands- Stila, Bumble and Bumble, Illume, Library of Flowers, Lollia, Rifle Paper Company, Tocca, Tokyo Milk, Royal Apothic..just to name a few.
